Upgrade Server with RAM and HDD
I have a HP ML350 G8 server, I need to upgrade this with more RAM and disks.
The server have now 48gb ram, 24gb on each CPU and 3x300gb in RAID 5
I have 2x16gb RAM and 3x600gb disks
Where do I place the new RAM? and how do I configure the new disks in RAID 5?
If use see the picture you see where the RAM is placed in the server

Re: Upgrade Server with RAM and HDD
For memory population, see https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c05227249
You should have four channels per processor with the white slots noting the first slot in the channel. It would seem to me that you would want a DIMM in the first slot of each channel (one in each white slot). According to the "memory subsystem architecture" table in the link, it lists out the population order. Take a look at population order A, B, C, D.
For the drives, simply insert them and use the Smart Storage Administrator GUI to create your new array. See https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c03909334

Re: Upgrade Server with RAM and HDD
Thanks for reply.
The server is a Hyer v Host. I have 3 servers running on this.
So I can just insert the disk and startup the server and open ilo from the windows?
Or do need to config the disk on startup?

Re: Upgrade Server with RAM and HDD
Under most circumstances you can simply insert the drives into a running system and they will just be unassigned. From there, you can launch the Windows based Array Configuration Utility or Smart Storage Administrator (SSA) and create your new logical drive out of your physical drives. From there, rescan the disks in windows and create/format your new partition. You can also shut the system down, insert the drives, then choose the correct startup option to boot into the ACU or SSA before the OS boots.

Re: Upgrade Server with RAM and HDD
Okay,
Thank you for info.
So the disk upgrade will not effect the old system?
So I can just turn off the server thursday evening and insert the 3 disks and starts the server, the server will do a normal startup and go into windows, and I can config the new disks friday morning?

Re: Upgrade Server with RAM and HDD
You can insert the disks without a reboot.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
