Re: upgrade
Hi, the mots important things you need to do is to make sure that your server has all the latest Bios, Firmware and drivers to accomodate Windows2000.
1. You will need to find out which family your server is. It is a 3 digit code that you will see when the server boots up and gives you the Bios date. It will either be a E39 or a P09. If you have a E39, you will need to download the Bios update sp14127 from http://www.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/download/8571.html or from http://www.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/download/10523.html if you have a P09 server. You save this file to your local hard drive and execute it, it will have you create a floppy with the Bios image. You must COLD boot the server with this floppy in the drive in order to flash the Rompaq succesfully.
2. You will need to find out if you have a Smart array controller. These controllers initialize at boot and will give you the model and firmware version information. To update the firmware on this you will need to download sp16377 from http://www.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/download/10947.html. Save this to your local hard drive and execute the file. It will prompt you to create 4 floppies but you can specify to create a specific floppy. When you get to the download page, scroll down and you will see a chart explaining which floppy you need to create for any given controller.
Once the server is up and running, you may want to update all the drivers and utilities by running the latest Compaq support pack. This file can be found at : http://www.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/download/10652.html. Download to the local drive and execute. You will need to run this support pack everytime you either run a Microsoft service pack or a Microsoft patch. NOTE THAT YOU MUST RUN THIS AFTER APPLYING THE PATCH BUT BEFORE REBOOTING THE SERVER .
If you plan on using a Smart Start cd to setup the server, please use a version that is equal or newer to 4.8. It is recommended that you use the latest cd you have in your possession in order to install the latest drivers and utilities. If you would like to purchase the latest version of SMart Start, you can do this by calling 1-800-573-1099.
If you require any further assistance, fell free to contact tech support at 1-800-OK-COMPAQ.
