Upgraded (Quieter) Fans?
I hope this does not come across as silly. I’m speaking of a server I am sure “fan sounds” are irrelevant but still I wonder, are there any upgrades “premium” fans of lesser noise?
Proliant DL380 Gen10. Stock fans and all… Normally I don’t mind them 15’ behind me as I watch a movie streaming from it but they do this weird imbalanced harmonic thing. I am sure it’s natural and normal but wondering if there were upgrades fans.

Re: Upgraded (Quieter) Fans?
This kind of thing has been discussed before with high end gaming systems.
The problem is that with fans, the noise comes from the fan RPM from the friction of air moving past the blades. So the only way to make them quieter is by turning the blades slower. But that moves less air so you run the server hotter and shorten it's life. The DL380 is a 2U rack mounted server so they had to use higher RPM fans to get enough air movement through the server to keep it cool.
The only way to get less fan noise and continue moving the same volume of air is to replace the fans with physically larger ones. Which would mean cutting the case. Since the fans in the server are already the size of the case that would be futile.
What you need to do is go buy yourself a 19" enclosed server cabinet. I see half height cabinets for sale in used computer parts places pretty cheaply from time to time.
The other way is replace your DL380G10 server with a ML350G10 server. The servers are basically the same electronics and power but the ML case is not a 2U case it is like a 4U. It has much larger and quieter fans. I've used these servers in small businesses with offices that had no area for the servers and no racks, precisely for the fan noise issue.

Re: Upgraded (Quieter) Fans?
1. Upgrade following components to the latest revision.
BIOS
iLO5
Server Platform Services (SPS)
Innovation Engine
AMS
2. Set the Workload profile to "High Performance Compute" /"Virtualization - Max Performance".
3. Set thermal configuration as “Optimal Cooling” in the BIOS
4. Verify that all air baffles and required blanks, such as drive blanks, processor heatsink blanks, power supply blanks, etc., are installed.

Re: Upgraded (Quieter) Fans?
Why cant the EL8000T Fan Server tray be upgraded to a Dynamic Bearing fan? The Nidec Ultraflow fans currently being used are not quiet bearing fans. The Nidec company seems to offer Dynamic Bearing quiet fans for other applications. This would dramatically reduce the ear pearcing noise of these Servers. HP could give their customers an upgraded option to buy which would make all of us much happier and hear better! OHSA recommends ear protection over the limits of 85db for 8hours. At max cooling we are seeing over 100db in enclosed spaces. This is really unacceptable that there is not an upgrade option
