Upgrading dissimilar hardware

I have a proliant 1600 with Windows 2000. It is a domain controller with DNS, WINS, DHCP. I am trying to upgrade it to DL360 G2 and it crashes after a restore because of the dissimilar drivers. Is there a best practice for upgrading Proliant servers without having to install from scratch.

Re: Upgrading dissimilar hardware

The best practice is the build the new server witn W2K from scratch.

Do it on a physically seperate network, where it can't see the box its going to replace.

Give it the same hostname, install all of the services and test them out. When you believe you have things working right, you can backup the data on the production server and make the switch.

There isn't a tool like Ignite/UX for Windows. Norton Ghost might do the job, it might not.
