Upgrading from RAID1 to RAID5, possible?

Dear all, I manage a HP Proliant ML 350G6 running Windows Server 2008R2 with over a 79Gb RAID1 (2 * 79GB).

Is it possible to move from the current Raid1 to a Raid5 without lossing any information/reinstalling the server?

Thank you

The answer is probably yes, if your current controller supports R5, it will only need the battery backed write cache to perform a raid / stripe migration. It does impact performance but it should be possible to do it in one night if you set it up to high priority for the migration. Do you know which Smart Array Controller are you running on this?

hi,

Yes, you can. You can check the ACU User Guide (extend/expand array). You need to have BBWC/FBWC.

Thanks

RAID 5 requires a Cache module. A battery is required to keep cache contents active to protect against power loss. Furthermore, RAID 5 needs at least three drives.
