Using an Onstream Internal Tape Drive with a ProLinea ML350
Thanks to the help I received from this forum, I was able to find a Compaq tape drive to put into the ML350, but the price of the tape drive ($1600) wasn't cost effective for what they need. So, I went looking at third party options, and came across the Onstream 120Si (60/120 internal) with Disaster Recovery. This comes in at a third of the price, but I'm not sure if it will work with the Smart Array 431 Raid card. Can the ProLinea be told to boot from this drive to perform disaster recovery? Does the SA-431 support this drive?

Re: Using an Onstream Internal Tape Drive with a ProLinea ML350
The SA-431 does not support ANY tape drives period. Looking at the specs of the drive, i see it's scsi. The ML350 should have an internal scsi port you can use. I know the G1's have 2 SCSI ports you can use.
I'm not sure if that tape drive even supports tape-boot. You will prob have to use floppies or burn a CD from your backup software.

Re: Using an Onstream Internal Tape Drive with a ProLinea ML350
Thanks... this is the problem I am running into - the customer is in one state and I am in another. When I go down there to do other work in a few weeks, I will be able to look inside the system and be able to make some better educated decisions. They have a Compaq DDS3 Ultra 2 tape drive installed now; the 120Si is Ultra 2 compatible so it should be a simple swap out. The problem with the DRTape matrix I have for Compaq servers is that it assumes you have an Ultra 3 server, which the ML350 G1 is not.
