What is 1U vs 2U vs 4U vs 7U in the form factors for Proliant servers? What are the criteria for deciding what kind of form factor you want to get?

1 U is a 'rack size unit'. The height of rack components is always a multiple of 1 U.
1 U is 'three holes', about 4.5 cm.

Depends on how much rack space you've got and what components you need in the server.
For example 1U servers can have 2 or 3 hard drives. 2U servers can have up to 6 hard drives.
