Win2K3 report 4 processors when on 2 exist on DL580G2
I am configuring to new DL580G2 Servers. Installing Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition using SmartStart (7.00). Installation was smooth with no issues but I see that both Task Manager and System Information report 4 processors when the server only has 2 processors. This issue has occurred now on two identical servers.
Any ideas how this can be corrected?
Thanks-
Randy

Re: Win2K3 report 4 processors when on 2 exist on DL580G2
Spoke with HP Support and the Analyst stated that the behavior was normal and caused by the Hyperthreading capability of the Xeon 4 processor. He stated that if I added the 2 additional (optional) processors that Windows Server 2003 would then display 8 total processors in Task Manager and System Information.
Can anyone confirm this? point me to more information online somewhere?
Thanks-
Randy

Re: Win2K3 report 4 processors when on 2 exist on DL580G2
Hi Randy,
This is due to the New Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT) Technology built into the Intel Xeon├в ┬в processors.
To disable Hyper-Threading:
Press F9 at POST to enter ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU)
From the Main Menu, select Advanced Options
From the Advanced Options menu, select Hyper-Threading
Select Disabled.
Moreover, you may visit these weblink :-

Thanks,
Geor

Re: Win2K3 report 4 processors when on 2 exist on DL580G2
Randy that is correct. Hyperthreading is why you are showing double the processors than your server physically has. The only reason you might want to disable it is if you have software licensing that is based on a per processor basis like SQL. Other than that you should see better performance out of your system as far as processing power goes.
