Re: Windows 2008, Server Hang

Ghosting the server drives off and then back onto a rebuilt array should work though right?

yes that should work

parts information

Smart Array E200 Controller
Controller 411508-B21

HP Internal SAS/SATA 4-Port Cable
457692-B21

NOTE: This cable is required when adding either the HP SC44Ge HBA (P/N 416096-B21) or the HP Smart Array E200 (P/N 411508-B21) on Non-Hot Plug SATA server models.

Re: Windows 2008, Server Hang

I Have the same problem installing Server 2008 SBS. But only SBS editions.

I have tried everything but nothing seems to help. Red "Health LED" blinking and server becomes unresponsive.

Even when installing the SBS server as a virtual server within Hyper-V the same thing happens. VERY wierd.

I am gonna contact HP support tomorrow, as I still have Warranty on my server!

Re: Windows 2008, Server Hang

Here is what I did to solve the problem.

This is for SBS 2008 x64.

I demanded a E200 /w 128mb card for my client. Installed that in parallel with the Original RAID card, booted windows and let it install the card.

Once installed i shut the server down and removed the old card and swapped the cable to the new card.

The new card recognized the HDD's had a raid configuration set up on it and I pressed F7 for the card to accept the config from the HDD's.

Booted the machine and now it runs fine.

Re: Windows 2008, Server Hang

Congratulations! If I had known earlier that it would solve the problem, I would have demanded E200 as well, instead of downgrading the system to Win2K3. Now it's done and dusted, I can't be bothered to touch it :-D

Re: Windows 2008, Server Hang

Hi.

Im just writing to confirm the resolution for this issue, just as a previous post, replacing the P400 with a E200 made the error and my headache disappear.

Put in the E200 card while the P400 is still the active controller, start up server, install drivers.

shut down server, move the HDD cables to E200, remove P400 card.

start server, bliss!

I had an dl180 g5 running SBS 2008 x64.

symptom:
After a while the server hanged and where unresponsive to mouse/keyboard/network. The 'internal error' led in the front where flashing (it looked like 3 leds where flashing but while filming with a camera i saw that is was only the middle one with light 'leakage'). Also, when i looked inside the server on the motherboard the led 'led 11' was on.

I spoke with HP for two weeks before i found this thread myself, HP had no idea what could be wrong, not even level 2 support, so i gave them this thread and hopefully they can help the next person calling in with this issue.

Re: Windows 2008, Server Hang

I have the same problem just called tech support last week 1/20/08 , they replaced CPU even have technician coming by to replace the MB, I cannot believe that HP Support would not search google and find this thread. Apparently HP still does not know the issue is in the Controller. Highly disappointed with HP.

Re: Windows 2008, Server Hang

also will ich es f├Г┬╝r unsere deutschen Kollegen zum einfacheren Finden das Problem moch mal in Deutsch beschreiben.

Re: Windows 2008, Server Hang

The solution is to move the sc40Ge SAS/SATA controller into PCI Express slot 2 or 3.

Re: Windows 2008, Server Hang

to late, never HP Server ...

"The solution is to move the sc40Ge SAS/SATA controller into PCI Express slot 2 or 3."

I can see how that would work but has anyone tried it?

SBS2K8 here with LSI controller and the same problem everyone else is having.

Re: Windows 2008, Server Hang

Hi guys,

I've been tearing my hair out over this problem for the past month - system (ML150 G5) will hang or spontaneously reboot up to several times a day. Thing is, I'm already running an E200 controller card... Any development to this story?

Cheers,

Tom

Re: Windows 2008, Server Hang

I have the exact same issue with the E200 card and SBS 2008, random reboots through the day...

I've tried moving the card which hasn't helped, i've disabled all additional software on the box, i've updated all the ROM's still the same issue.

Anyone?
