WS 2008 -> Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration
G'Day Guys
I have been asked to setup a ML350 G5 for a primary school in my area, so they dont have a lot of $$$s as they only have 100 students !!!
I am more familiar with IBM & Dell servers, so I am by no means a guru with HP hardware !!!
I found this post -> http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/ProLiant-Servers-Netservers/Unable-to-install-Server-2008-on-Proliant-ML370G5/td-p/1105938#.VWrh-vmqpBc
But I cannot find i386 on the HP supplied Windows 2008 DVD.
So I tried booting to the DVD with out first using smartstart as I have read in other posts in forums I have found on the net.
I get almost to the end of the install & then get this error
Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed
Anyone got any ideas how I can get an OS onto this old server ???
TIA
NG

Re: WS 2008 -> Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration
Hi,
Have you created RAID before installing OS?
In some cases the hard drive may be faulty.
Boot from SmartStart CD and perform Diagnostics, Create RAID and then install OS.
Thank You!
I am a HP employee

[NG] The original OS installation attempt was a replacement of a working OS - WS2003, this OS installation had been working for approx. 5 years :)
[NG] When my first few OS installation attempts didnt work I ran diagnostics over the drives & memory etc. etc. etc.
In some cases the hard drive may be faulty.
[NG] No errors were reported with the drives !!!
Boot from SmartStart CD and perform Diagnostics, Create RAID and then install OS.
[NG] I have run diags. for many hours.
[NG] I have re-created RAID
[NG] This server has 4 x drives & I have tried installing OS to 1st 2 x drives & to the 2nd 2 x drives
[NG] I have attempted to install OS many many times, more than 20 changing one conf. items at a time to try & pin point the issue
[NG] What about the error message - "Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration"
[NG] I cannot find any BIOS settings that 'protect' the drives ???
[NG] I cannot find any BIOS settings that 'protect' the boot sector ???
[NG] If this school buys 2 x new drives from HP & this does not fix the issue then what would you suggest we try next ???
TIA
NG
