9G hot swap HDD interchangable?

I'm looking for a hot swap drive for an LD Pro. The LD Pro 9G hot swap part number is 4289A. The 9g hot swap for later Netservers (LC LH, etc.) is D6107A. The plastic front panel on the D6107A assembly is clearly different, but it looks the same attachment screw pattern and same case size is used for the actual hdd on both types. I'm guessing that I could I just remove a D6107A hdd and then install it in a D498A OR D3583C (4G) frame.

Can anyone say if this wil/won't work?

Re: 9G hot swap HDD interchangable?

Bob, the only thing I see different between them is that the D6107A is an ultra-2 and the D4189A is an ultra drive. The ultra-2 drives should be electrically compatible with the controller and other drives. If you're using Mylex-type DAC, there might be a problem if the newer 9GB drives are a slightly different size, but I have no direct experience with this. You might want to look at the document referenced by this link:

If I run across any more useful info, I'll post it here.

Note, that if the drive does work its most likely that the faster drives will step down in access speeds to the slower drive, so a perfromance hit may occur.
