change server hp
Good morning,
i'm going to change my server (IBM Netfinity 3000 serveraid 5) with a new one HP with SCSI disk.
I ask if it is possible move my raid support from the ibm server to the hp server, and if it so which hp server model do you suggest me?
Thansk a lot for any help you'll give me.
Mariangela

Re: change server hp
It could be possible if the netraid controller used in the IBM system is the same manufacturer (ex. AMI, adaptec, etc.) as the one you will be putting in the HP netserver, and the storage unit or HDD are compatible with the server. Also, you are asking for suggested servers, or are you just looking for something comparable to the IBM system you curretnly have?

Re: change server hp
Dear All,
my netraid controller has been made by IBM Corporation (P/N 01k7352), so it
should be difficult to know if it is compatible with server hp, isn't it?
Finally i ask you, if possible, to suggest me a kind of hp server; we are
estimating between Netserver E800 and LC2000; what do you think about these one?
I will install Win NT Server 4.0
Best Regards
Mariangela

Re: change server hp
Hi,
The easiest way to find out if the IBM raid works inside the hp server. Put the disks in the hp server. Boot up, press during post CTRL-M and try to load the configuration from disk (config:view/add/delete Load from disk).
If that works then you are lucky then DON'T do a initialize of the disks!
To prepare good: make a backup and if possible do a ghost image to tape. If you can't read the raid configuration then just make the raidset within the HP netraid adapter and restore the ghost image from tape. That works very good (I'm using that a lot).
E800 and LC2000 are almost impossible to order anymore. I'll prefer to you a TC3100 the best combination between E800 and TC4100. The TC3100 is the follup to the E800 and the TC4100 is the follow up to the LC2000.

have fun!
