Extend Logical drive
Hello,
I have an Proliant DL380 G4 with MSA 500 G2,
This Msa have four 146 Gb disk on a Raid 5 logical unit.
I want to add 9 more disk and extend capacity of this logical drive.
My question is if it's possible for smart array controller to do it automatically without dismount Raid and no data loss?.
Bests regards.
Quique

Re: Extend Logical drive
you can find this question many times on this forum.
offcourse this is dependant on how the OS can handle this.
for w2k3 it's very straightforward.
1) add sisks to the MSA
2) assign these disks to the array (using ACU)
3) extend the logical volume (using ACU)
4) use diskpart from within windows to extend the partitions on the disk.
Normally this encounters no problems, but still it's good practice to make a backup before doing this.

Re: Extend Logical drive
Just be aware that extending this drive that much will take considerable time, and I/O performance will be affected whilst it's extending. I suggest you start it on a friday if your system is quiet on the weekend.
