Gen8 Booting the SPP ISO
Hi,
Had my Gen8 Microserver 2 weeks now. Cannot figure out how to boot from a USB stick with the 2016 SPP on it. Would be grateful for a quick idiots guide on how to do this please. Also how do I get a definitive list of my firmware and software levels please. Have HPSUM 7.6 installed.
Thanks
Chris

Re: Gen8 Booting the SPP ISO
Did you use the HPUSBKEY utility 2.1 to create the stick?
The default is to boot USB first.
You can press F11 during boot to get the boot menu, press "3" to boot from USB.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Gen8 Booting the SPP ISO
Hi, Thanks for your reply.
No I didnt use the HPUSBKEY utility to create the stick.
I changed my boot order to boot from my SSD but have tried the Boot Menu however USB stick does not come up as an option only USB Key ?
Does that make sense ?

But how you did it?
The stick is likely not bootable?
You can get similar results in terms of updates if you just run
hp\swpackages\hpsum.bat
when the OS (windows) is up.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Gen8 Booting the SPP ISO
Hi, Thanks again for your prompt reply. I apologize for my lack of experience here. I have now downloaded the HP USB utility and will create my USB stick like that. I did attempt to create a baseline and update my firmware through HPSUM(7.6.0) but kept hitting the unable to download error message regardless of what I did. I'm wondering if I'm encountering any issues because I have installed Win 10 Pro as my OS which I dont think is supported by HP for Gen8 servers.
Thanks
Chris

Only windows server versions are supported.

Please explain!
by the way, the utility is within the image, in USB directory.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
