How to use ECU on LH3r

I have downloaded and updated to the latest BIOS (4.04.43PL) for my LH3r.I did not find a separate ECU download so I assume the correct ECU is included with the BIOS download(?). Running the ECU either from the floppy or from a copy on an HD, I cannot get beyond "this drive contains no config files", even when i copy and start ECU within a dir containing cfg files. I also presume the HP config program called by F12 is not the ECU since few or none of the described functions/utilities are present there. What's up?

My ultimate goal it to disable the onboard video and add a higher-res PCI adapter using the ECU.

Thanks,
Jim Bridges

The ECU is on the motherboard on this system. It is the BIOS. Just press F2 on post early to configure the server.

Re: How to use ECU on LH3r

Thanks Theo.

F2 calls the PhoenixBios setup utility which has no provision for disabling the on-board Cirrus Logic 5446 CGA,(that I can find anyway though I hope you prove me wrong). Using TopTools I can see that the built-in CGA is using IRQ 13. I can un-install the Cirrus driver in Windows Settings/Monitors which does disable the adapter, but I've not succeeded in getting either a Stealth 64 PCI or a 3DLabs Permedia2 VGA to wake-up. I presume that completely disabling the CGA requires something more than uninstalling the driver(?) Judging by other posts, this should be possible if the on-board video can be diabled. Any advice would be appreciated greatly. Also,I have both WinNT4 Enterprise Server (SP6)and Windows 2000 Professional installed. Is one or the other OS more likely to be useful in finding a solution to this?

PS - I'm sure you server guys are weary of helping some of us push these machines to do something they weren't designed to do but this is a lot of useful computer to have only 16 or 256 colors available.

Re: How to use ECU on LH3r

There isn't a way to disable the onboard video via the BIOS or jumper settings. I don't know what else to try beyond that. Unless you can find someone who can program a BIOS, I don't think it is possible.

Theo -

Thanks again for responding. Not possible...?
I'll let you know how when I figure it out.
