HP NetServer LH 3000 SCSI drive replacement.

I have a HP NetServer LH 3000.

The current configuration on it contains 12 36 gigabyte SCSI drives divided into 2 arrays with 6 drives on each channel.

This weekend I will be replacing all the drives with 72 gigabyte SCSI drives maintaining the same configuration (2 arrays with 6 drives on each channel).

I don't know if this is the right forum for this question but here goes:

I want to attach an IDE 250 Gb hard drive to the system and image each channel (using Acronis True Image Server or Symantec Ghost) to the 250 Gb hard drive. I will then replace the 36 Gb drives with the 72 Gb drives and then image from the 250 Gb drive back to the SCSI drives.

Can the hardware support an IDE 250 Gb hard drive?

What do you think of my proposed method of imaging?

Your suggestions are very welcome.

Thank you.

Re: HP NetServer LH 3000 SCSI drive replacement.

The LH3000 most certainly has an IDE bus (your CD-ROM is connected too it), but the moment you add an IDE disk into the mix, you are going to start having grief.

I don't have that class of machine on hand, so I can't recall if the BIOS has the ability to change teh boot priority of the interfaces. If so, make sure the IDE Disk is below the RAID controller.

After that, make sure you've got a backup, do the image..

Swap the disks, re-create the new array, then image-back.

Now, as to whether the BIOS it's self is intelligent enough to cope with a 250GB IDE is a different question! I've not tried, and I've not seen any notes about changes to the IDE support in the BIOS updates I've done recently.

2 minutes, and you'll be able to tell..
One long-haired git at your service...
