LH4 - Beginner's question
I got an old LH4, I want to use as a file server. The system was selled by e-bay, so there I don't have any support ... :-(
Trying to install the server, I only see in the display, the "HP Netserver (LH4)". In the menu I can see, that theres a wrong configuration, but I don't have any idea, how to change this configuration.
Can anybody help me?
Second question is about a promise Raid-IDE-Controller, I want to use in this LH4. Does anybody has any experience with that configuration?
thanks a lot

Re: LH4 - Beginner's question
If you would like to set the configuration to the factory default do the following
NOTE: If you have customized or made any special settings using BIOS Setup Utility, clearing CMOS will reset everything back to defaults. Before clearing CMOS, record all current settings from the system BIOS Setup Utility then after clearing CMOS, enter the system BIOS Setup Utility and reapply the settings used before clearing CMOS.
Clearing the System Configuration
1. Power off server, and unplug the power cord. Remove the front bezel and top cover.
2. Refer to the Technical Reference Card inside the top cover. Move the configuration memory switch, switch 5 on the system board, to the "ON = CLEAR CONFIG" position.
The system switches are located on the system board, near the Voltage Regulator Module (VRM) and battery.
3. Plug in the power cord, and power on the server. The following message is displayed:
"The configuration has been cleared. Set the Clear Config switch to the OFF position before rebooting."
4. Turn off power to the HP NetServer and unplug the power cord.
5. Return switch 5 on the system board to the OFF position.
6. Place the covers and the front bezel back onto the server, then plug in the power cord.
7. Power on the server again; an error message may be displayed:
"0012-34 : Incorrect System Configuration"
8. Press the key to run the Setup Utility.
9. Make any configuration changes that are required.
10. Press the function key and answer Yes to save the configuration, then exit the Setup utility.
Good Luck

Re: LH4 - Beginner's question
first thanx for the answer ... I tried, but it didn't work ... after finding an moving the Switch 5 to on-position the restart didn't change anything! There are still in the system-configuration the same (wrong) informations about 2 processors and a lot of RAM, that's not installed! And there was no change of the display-message and the screen stayed black ...
Anybody some more tips for me?
Thanks a lot!

Re: LH4 - Beginner's question
I'm a newbie LH3 owner myself, and something occurred to me when reading your post. How long have you waited with the screen staying black before powering down? I was fooled a bit when I first started working with my system, as it takes a solid 2 minutes to turn on the monitor. Before then, there's not even any sync signals going to the monitor -- it stays in a low-power mode.
It sounds like you might have more going on than this simplistic scenario, but I thought it worth double-checking.
Also, what kind of memory is in your system? My box has two HP 128MB DIMMs and two non-HP DIMMs; the non-HP DIMMs have blinking status lights that indicate "I don't like non-HP memory!" but it works anyway. If it so happens that you have HP memory in the system, perhaps you can see if the status lights are lit up solid green. That might tell you a little bit about what the system sees.
Just some thoughts... hope it's helpful.
