ML370 Fan Failures
Does anyone know of an Engineering Advisory recommending a ROM upgrade to prevent incorrect fan failure errors that are resulting in system board replacements?

Re: ML370 Fan Failures
Hugh:
There are ROM updates for the ML370 G1 that added support for the latest Intel Processor and adjusts thermal settings depending on processor speed back in 2000, here is the revision history:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/revision/2024.html
The ML370 G2 has a few enhancements for fan function added in 2001; here is the revision history:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/revision/3433.html
In the ML370 G3, there were updates to the ROM even in the last update dealing with fan issues, here:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/21517.html
The ML370 G4 has basically just been relaesed, but there is one additonal bios release, I did not see any heat or fan issues listed:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/revision/8697.html
In any case, I highly recommend you use the latest bios for your server generation to capture this and many other fixes.

Re: ML370 Fan Failures
Thanks John,
the specific issue is on ML370 G3 ,symptoms are 1611 fan failure, but the fan replacement does not cure fault.Once the fault is reported the damage has already been done to the system brd and it requires replacement.

Re: ML370 Fan Failures
Hugh:
Yes, this can happen when the fan causes an electrical short. This was a big problem in earlier models of ProLiants where they ran power lines along side the signal lines on PC boards.
This unit should still be under warranty, no?
