ML530 and CPU fan problem
Compaq ML530 G2 with 2x Xeon 2.4
We are having an issue with a failing CPU fan after a major breakdown of the server room cooling unit that brought the room temperature around 30 degrees Celsius.
The system reported:
System Fan Failure (Fan 1, Location CPU)
and it was restarting every 20 min. because of unsufficient cooling.
As both fans where spinning we tried to switch them over and we menaged to hav e the server back online but the cooling is now running too high.
Both fan are spinning to the max speed, even if the room is now back to 19C.
Opening the side pannel, and feeling the temperature would reveal cold icy hair circulating and therefore I don't understand why the system cooling is running so high.
Is there a temperature sensor that perhaps has been affected permanently by the incident and can be replaced?
Is there anything I can do to detect what is triggering this high level of cooling?
Thanks

Re: ML530 and CPU fan problem
I had a problem once when I imaged a server from a G1 machine to a G2 machine. I upgraded the MGNT agents and it worked fine after that.

Re: ML530 and CPU fan problem
(Are you running Windows?)
Download the latest Proliant Support Pack for your server from here:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/family/model/3991.html?lang=en&cc=uk
This should ensure the fans are controlled at the correct level - you will have easy access to the temp reports from the internal sensors using the System Management Homepage that is available once the pack is installed.
