Netraid and LH Pro?

I just bought an LH Pro with a netraid adapter-D4943-60002 and 3 HP 4.3g hdd's. Can anyone explain to me in detail how to cable, terminate and set the id's for this setup to work? I have tried and I always get an error of host adapter at baseport fc10h is not responding-no netraid adapter installed. If I pull the card and run the scsi cable from the upper cage to the onboard a channel, everything seems ok. And yes, I am new to this and really would like to have the three drives set up in raid for the best performance, not data safety.

Re: Netraid and LH Pro?

I think it would be pretty hard to describe this in a forum post. You should check out the LH Pro Users guide for information on setting the SCSI IDs. See Chapter 3 of the Users Guide at:

http://h200004.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/lpn11737/lpn11737.pdf

Also, see the HP NetServer Service Handbook for mid-level systems. There are detailed cabling diagrams for LH Pro on pages 87 & 88:

http://h200004.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/lpn11786/lpn11786.pdf

There may be other documents that can help answer your questions, you can get to them by clicking on the "Manuals" link on:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Home.jsp?locale=en_US&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=50454&prodSeriesName=hp+netserver+lh+pro

If that documentation doesn't help, let us know.

Re: Netraid and LH Pro?

I tried those already, they mostly apply to clustering storage servers. I am setting up the netraid for internal storage. Any ideas about the error I am getting?

Cable guide:

Are you seeing the netraid controller in the ECU? Is the config file loaded for it?

Re: Netraid and LH Pro?

doh, didn't look at the address... can't use that. Try this:

Page 13 should help.

Re: Netraid and LH Pro?

OK, I read and re-read that one, seems I had everything set up like it says switch wise, and the drives work fine on the onboard adaptec controller. Boots up win2000, but I am still not getting anywhere with the netraid adapter. I installed it again, with nothing connected to it and it still gives me the same error messages. adapter not responding. It scans the busses forever and then nothing. Do I need terminators on these hotswap cages? I am using a c22 cable from the a channel to the input on the upper cage and a c22 from the b channel to the cd-rom (with adapter). When I put the cable from the upper cage to channel 0 on the netraid, it does it's normal scanning, says initializing firmware the whole time and gives me the same error! I do appreciate you guy's patience with this one!

Re: Netraid and LH Pro?

I figured it out! It was the id's on the top cage. The default position for switch 4 was on and when I moved it to off, it all works now! I am now very happy with my entry into server land!

Re: Netraid and LH Pro?

Yep, I spoke to soon. It recognized the three drives, created a raid 0 array, initialized them but upon rebooting it gave me the error of "Unresolved configuration mismatch between disk(s) and NVRAM on the adapter---! logical drive handled by bios" Also, the bios version is a.03.00 jun 10, 1997 how do I update this and the firmware and where can I find them?

Re: Netraid and LH Pro?

Go into Objects>physical drives and verify that all the drives have a capacity. Here is a link to your netraid controllers page with updates:

Re: Netraid and LH Pro?

Got that problem taken care of, made boot disks for win2000 pro, it installs ok, get all the way through the first configuration menu to installing network components and then the middle scsi drive's second light starts flashing green every time! I reboot, it tells me a drive failed, I reconfig array and it works ok, just until the same point. I had all three of the drives working just fine 2 days ago on the adaptec controller. I really don't want to give up on that darn netraid card!

Re: Netraid and LH Pro?

Well, at this point I have tried every variation of installing winnt4 and win2000, and every single time the netraid card fails a drive. I tried 3, I tried 2, I tried every combo possible and every time it boots halfway and fails a drive. Any ideas?

Re: Netraid and LH Pro?

Are you using the latest firmware on the card? The HDD firmware should also be checked. Also, are the cables you are using terminated or not?

Re: Netraid and LH Pro?

Well, the good news is I finally got absolutly everything to work on this thing. The netraid works, and the only way I was able to keep it from failing a drive was with the firmware mentioned here http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x9a898cc5e03fd6118fff0090279cd0f9,00.html. It now works flawlessly with a dual booted winnt4.0 and win2000. Raid 0 with the 3 4.2g hdd's. This firmware seems to work quite a bit better too, it scans faster and hasen't given me a problem yet!
