NetServer 5/166 LC (Plus?)

Would like to set to OEM Conf... rec'ed system cold no instruction... doing research on Web with another pc/system... had LC started with BIOS & ECU for LC server but could not get NT 4.0 to load correctly...(I suspect SCSI format) so decided to start all over again from OEM... Screen was working.. Turned system & Switch #3 off and turned server back on again(no screen??)than off (but had startup disk from Win 98SE in floppy drive(was going to use util. debug routine to wipe hard drive and forgot to take it out of drive)) put ECU disk in floppy and no screen. Have power and fan but other than that can't get anyother responce.. I know this server is old... but interesting... best regards..

NT 4.0 has to have SCSI Drivers loaded first. Common occourance is for the load to say that it can't find HDD if your CD is IDE (NT4.0 CD is bootable). You must start with Floppy startup disks and keep CD out of reader until you have gotten to third floppy. I think you cleared the CMOS by opening switch 3. You will have to run EISA Config. Utility.

Thank Elliot, I have taken out the battery & it checked ok,,,will reassemble every thing... try to reload CMOS & use your idea about making sure the SCSI drivers are loaded... but 1 of my problems was not getting any POST responce at all with switch 3 on or off.....

Re: NetServer 5/166 LC (Plus?)

you might start with the newest bios and ecu at this sight.

make the new floppies and run them on the lc 5/166, do the bios and save/exit then the ecu.. i thought it walked you through which operating system you wanted to load and save/exit.

is your screen alot newer then the vintage 1995 lc 5/166? then the very base drivers may not work?? untill you can load the drivers from ecu... would an older screen be needed? I'm not that smart with video output..

Re: NetServer 5/166 LC (Plus?)

Thanks, Paul,,
The site you posted is for LC servers, and this is correct for someone that does not have navigator CD (me included) but my server is a LC plus (HP does not document this very well not your fault)it uses diffent SYS BIOS 4.04.32PD and ECU.... to make a long story short... tore down server hardware including battery and all drives inspected everything put back together powered up and set BIOS & ECU got NT 4 to load but made a mistake formating SCSI hard drive to FAT instead of NTFS... go figure... it works... not the way I want... also the I have two SCSI disks 2GB (FAT) and 4.26GB on PCI SCSI controller... The NT 4 is not seeing the 4.26GB disk... well back the the drawing board..;)
