Problem with Second Process on LC 2000

I ordered a second 733 Mhz PIII processor for my LC 2000 and it doesn't seem to function. The computer just freezes after the initial post and just after the serial number is displayed.

It does say 2 processors initialized though right after the RAM test.

It won't even enter the BIOS setup. (I did install the VRM for the second processor.) If I remove the original processor and put the new one in the first slot, it still freezes.

The machine boots fine with my original processor after I remove the new one.

The original processor details:

PIII 733/133 CPU
D9184-60001
733/256/133/1.65 V
90090112-0465 MALAY
Copyright 99, SL3SB

The new one which doesn't seem to work in my LC 2000

733/256/133/1.65 V
90090066-0169 MALAY
Copyright 99, SL3SB

So the second one has a slightly different number and I can tell it's a slightly different part although all the same specs.

Does anyone know if the processor dead or is this part just not compatible with my LC2000?

Is there something in the install I'm forgetting?

Re: Problem with Second Process on LC 2000

Are you running the latest BIOS? You can find the latest BIOS here:

You could also try and clear the CMOS.

Re: Problem with Second Process on LC 2000

I have the latest BIOS already installled before I attempted to install the new processor: 4.06.03 (02-OCT-01).

How do you flash the CMOS? I ran the BIOS flash update... is that what you mean?

Thanks,

Re: Problem with Second Process on LC 2000

Clearing CMOS is done via the system board jumpers. It's a block of 8 switches. With the system off, you need to move #5 into the on position. Then boot the server. At the end of post, it will ask you to flip the switch back. Power the system off, flip #5 back to the off position. Boot the server, press F2 to enter setup. At this point do F10 (save and exit). I would do this with the working processor in, then place the new processor in after completing it. I would also try to update the BIOS again, even though it is the most recent version.
