I have a problem with istalling a Debian system (or any Linux actually) on a Proliant ML570 machine. As soon as the installation software starts to install kernel modules, the mount cdrom command fails with an "Invalid argument" message. This is even more strange as the cdrom boots normally when I start to install the system from CD and everything seems ok.

Solution
Here is a link to some whitepapers and notes that may help you in installing the server:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/installnotes-ml.html
Please note, Debian is not one of the O/S distros that was "certified" on the ML570. But you should be able to make it work.

Re: Proliant ML570 Linux Installation
Thanks,
In the Installation Notes there is nothing about Debian. Most of them are made for RedHat - that is why I decided to switch to RedHat (7.1) and it worked fine!
Now, RedHat is not really the newest distribution around, but that ok - I installed the bare system, and download and install all the thing I need separately (apache, bind, ftp, ect...) That is even better because I can build them myself, which gives me greater control.
Thanks
Bartek
