"Operating system not found"

Howdy,
I just received a LH pro 6/200 netserver, and when I fired it up, the screen said "Operating system not found", and
"Hard Disk 0: None
"Hard Didk 1: None.
I booted to DOS with a boot disk and did an FDISK and the screen said "No fixed disks found". I underdstand I need to install an operating system, and my three part question is, how do I install? where do I install? And which operating system do I install?
Thank you for replies

Re: "Operating system not found"

The error you have seen combined with the messages you recieved that indicate that no hard drives were found.

How many hard drives do you have? If you do have hard drives installed, are the scsi and power cables firmly seated? And, if the cables are firmly seated, what do the indicator LEDs show? Do the hard drives appear to spin up?

If I am not mistaken, the backplane of the hotswap hard drives in this server has a separate power cable for each individual hard drive: check those connections to make sure any installed hard drives are powered correctly. If they are not, that could explain why you are getting the "no operating system found" error.

You need to make sure your hard drives are detected correctly before you can begin to consider which OS you can install.

You will not be able to find any HP drivers for Windows 2000 and HP would not support theuse of 2000 on this server. But, you can find drivers for Windows NT and Novell Netware 4.x for the LH Pro here:

Good luck,

Re: "Operating system not found"

Thank you very kindly Alicia,

I have 6 hot swapable drives
All the cables seem to be connected ok, and I have green lights on all of them. I don't however have the NetServer Navigator CD, which I just bought on ebay. Forgive a dumb question, but do I need it?

Re: "Operating system not found"

Does the system display "press or for scsi setup or netraid-utilities
then that is your choise to make.
hardddisk 0 and 1 are references to IDE (ATA) disks wich most likely are NOT present in your system.
Netscape navigator detects this all and assists in the correct steps to do this all.

Re: "Operating system not found"

How would I get a copy of the Navigator CD, it seems to be rather key in many of the support forums that i find so relavant. Does HP replace them, or is anyone gracious enough to send me a copy or an *.iso??
