I recently installed RMC-V on my 6.5 environment. I have 3PAR and RMC hosts has FC connectivity to the array also.
I have started to work on protection but the big thing I need to know is how do I restore individual files from within the VM from a snapshot.
As RMC-V states it can do this, but looking at user guide does not say how to get them back at that level.
Thanks,

Re: RMC-V File Level Recovery - How?
Hi,
Yes, it is possible to recover a file.
User need to follow the procedure of registering the VM to access and retrieve files.
here is the procedure.
1. mount the snapshot. (A New Datastore is created on the ESXi the snapshot is mounted on)
2.. navigate to the New Datastore (which starts with snap****).
3. browse the files in Datastore.
4. regsiter the VM .
5. Power on the VM
6. access the files.
Thanks,
Amar

Re: RMC-V File Level Recovery - How?
Thank you for your update and information.
I guess I was hoping for more of a lower effort/wizard ( easier ) way to get the files out.
But understand if that is the limit of RMC.
Thanks again for the reply.

Re: RMC-V File Level Recovery - How?
So I went to test a restore and got this message,
( not seeing how to insert images smoothly here )
But I am in vCenter and on the VM, in More Objects, where I can see the available recovery sets.
I click on a recovery set, and then hit restore, but it gives me this text
"Restore from recovery set is not supported for VMFS based virtual machine. Use DataStore Level Recovery set for restore or alternatively use Copy VMDK option under manage tab"
Okay so why can I not restore from VM based recovery set.
As when I go to Data Store, I woudl need to make whole new Recovery set to use that, as it does not see VM recovery set.
And when I do use a DataStore Recovery set, I can only store whole thing and tells me to power down VMs, so will override prod datastore, which is not good.
Says I can use Copy VMDK under manage tab.
Where is the manage tab that this refers too, as i am not seeing it anywhere?

SolutionOkay may have found my own answer, re-read the user guide,
If I double click the recovery set, brings me to part of vCenter where I have a manage tab for that snapshot now, and able to mount, then do what I need
Woof, wish it is more intuitive and easy to use, but does what I need it to do.

Re: RMC-V File Level Recovery - How?
Thanks for your feedback. We are actively looking into how ERT workflow can be further simplified, and would be more than happy to give you a peep into the proposed new design if you are available for comments over a quick call.
Thanks again!
