Agents & IM7SP2 not recognize server

Hi all,
We have two ML370G3 running W2k (Almost identical hardware except the NICs). One of them is the IM7SP2 server - the other one is a MS SQL Server storing (among others) the IM7 database. When upgrading to Support Pack 6.40A the SQL Server is not recognized anymore - neither by the agents nor by IM. On the System Management Hompage we read System Model: unknown, System Status: none
Both servers were updated to Support Pack 6.40A at the same time and using the very same files. With 6.20 everything worked fine. Reinstalling Support Pack does not help.

Any ideas on what we made wrong?

My guess is that the Agents were not configured before installation.

Try running setup.exe supplied with the softpaq. This should bring up the Remote Deployment Utility. In the Left Hand Side, expand the All Configurable Components. Do they have a blue tick?
If not, right click and select configure and add the details as required. Repeat for all items.
From there, expand the OS you require, Select the Server you wish to Update In the Target Server, clear all entries from the Right Hand Screen and then just drag the three configurable items across and install.
Ensure the box is checked to overwrite newer versions. You'll be overwriting a current version.

There is nothing to configure and nothing to expand. I can select the agents to be installed on the targed server but according the remote setup tool version 6.40 is already the current version.
Any ideas?

You should get a GUI when you run the setup.exe.
The HP Proliant Remote Deployment Utility.

It should scan the repository, takes a few minutes and produces a list of folders in the Left Hand Panel.

If it's not doing this, ensure the Repository field points to where the softpaq has been unloaded to.

You shouldn't need to worry about the target machine at this point.

Amongst the folders in the RDU, you should see one called All Configurable Components.

If you're not seeing this then my guess is that the repository is incomplete. Try re-downloading the entire softpaq to a new directory and rerunning the setup.exe from there.

The bad news first it is not working yet. Here is what we did so far:
We redownloaded the entire softpaq and started setup from the server. The RDU came up and we configured the items under "All Configurable Components" (until they all had blue ticks). Then we said install and made sure that current version would be overwritten (I don't remember the exact wording of that checkbox). However the Management Agents were not installed correctly. After checking the logfile we saw that apparently version 6.20 was still installed. We rebootet and re-re-installed 6.40. Still the agents did not even the server model. Then we de-installed the management agents (Control Panel | Add Remove Programm) - Rebooted - installed the 6.40 Management Agents ... and still the Agents do not recognize the server.
We have really no idea about what we can still do ... and btw rebooting the SQL server is fun...

I want you to try this.

1.Completely remove the agents again just like you did in the previous post.

2. delete the "C:\Compaq\WBEM" directory.

3. Reboot.

4. Reinstall the 6.40a Agents

5. Reboot.


Let me know if that helps.

Hi,

For me it looks like there is a problem in SNMP settings.
If you have security setting "accept SNMP packets..." enabled, make sure that "localhost" is included.

Actually Accept SNMP packets from any host is selected by default and is sufficient. You don't have to configure the SNMP service at all if you're login in locally to check server status and info.

Thanks for your help ... but it didn't work out. The server is still not recognized by the agents. The only difference is that we had to install a new certificate ... that's all.
Maybe as a summary: When we installed the very first time the SP6.40a I do not remember that we had to configure any components in the RDU. So I think that we had problems with the first download. (but interestingly ... on the other ML370G3 everything is working fine) Then we re-downloaded the whole Support Pack and we had to configure the agents (but this didn't help). My personal guess is that something during the first installation went very wrong. Do you know if we could somehow "downgrade" to a previous SP to "overwrite" anything that went wrong with the first installation ... or do you have any other idea?

Thanks for your help! I guess this solved our problem. The servers IP Address was in included but just for fun I selected Accept SNMP packets from all and additionall I added 127.0.0.1 to the trap destinations (the servers IP Address was already included) Now it works!

We have 2 DL580G2's did everything suggested here. I have applied the same process to other various model servers running agent versions 5.00-6.20 but this server is a SQL cluster.
The SNMP setting described here is not set on any of our other server running 6.40.

I have a very similar problem, but I'm using NT4 server. Any suggestions as to what SNMP settings I may have to set to get the agents to report properly?

The snmp settings are pointing to the CIM server. This is what all other servers are set to.

May I sugegst starting a new thread and posting the settings that you have and the problem you're seeing.

The forum mechanism works well if the points system is used, e.g. if someone solves a problem and the points get allocated the rabbit hat indicates a solution worked. This also helps others who are having a similar problem.

My problem is the same as what everyone else is having. There is no point in having seperate threads for the exact same issue.
