Auto Discovery
Has anyone come across the following behaviours in IM7.
1)sometimes Auto Disco works and other times it doesn't, this is not a (GUID) problem as my build is scrpited not imaged. Sometimes when manually adding a node although IM7 seems to accept the node, when you search for it it comes back with "device not found" however when you try re add the node it comes back with "cannot add device, device already exists" so you search IM7 and the devices table in SQL and guess what! it's not there..
I checked with for stored procs in SQL to see if there was a job that committed devices manually discoverd or Auto discovered and there isn't one.
Can someone tell me what's going on as I am sure this is not the first post on the subject.

Re: Auto Discovery
I had similar issues when I installed IM7. Here is what I have done to fix it.
On the first screen when you start IM7, in the section that lists your devices, click on "configure me" which is in the right hand corner of the list and select all devices rather that servers only.
Then go to Manual discovery and edit the device by entering the device name and IP address. Put a check mark in the resolve IP address using DNS and apply to device.
Go back to your home page and you will see the device listed. Click on Software status button and from the software inventory click on options. Make sure you have the right server name for Version control repository and the right SNMP settings.
hope this helps. Some of may not apply to your problem.

Re: Auto Discovery
I know how to auto discover and manually discover devices, I am aware of the resolve using DNS button too.
The issue is that sometimes devices are discovered and sometimes they are not even when the conditions are identical.

Re: Auto Discovery
Someone I know had the same kind of problem.
One thing you might want to check is to see if you can see these servers in the "all devices" query. If you do, then there is a probability that your "status polling task" is not funcioning correctly or maybe the intervals are too long or even disabled.
