Re: Default Setups for Alarms

Hello -

OU tof the box IM7's mibs are properly categorized and configured to handle all alarms. The only time you will need to configure a mib is when you add one in for another device.

I am no worried about the mibs, I am worried about the alarms,

What are the you have setup, and how did you configure them?

Re: Default Setups for Alarms

As Jadrice already said MIBs cover all possible events with HP hardware, i.e. event that happen on a server with properly configured agents and SNMP settings, will be in IM7 database either immediately (trap) or within the time period of SNMP status polling task (default 5 min). After the event is in database you could just see it through Web browser, or better configure notification task.

Re: Default Setups for Alarms

I created different query groups based on server definitions. In otherwords, I have an event query group for Database servers, Network Management servers, Web servers etc. The event queries are in the folowing format:

Event by cleared status: Uncleared
Events of severity: Critical and Major
Devices name: (here you list all servers that will be part of that group)

I then create an exclusion list that weeds out the following:

Events of type: Keyboard and mouse disconnected, Server resets etc.

That is the format or template that I use. I then create a notification task whether it is an email or application launch then I based the notification task per query groups.

Re: Default Setups for Alarms

At the Client end, ensure that SNMP is set up to send SNMP Traps to the IM Server.

If we're talking HP Servers here, then any SNMP Trap sent by the Client Server will trigger some kind of Event on the IM Server.
This will update the Uncleared Events Traffic Lights at the top of the IM Screen.

From there, as oithers have said, you need to configure e-mail, pager or application launch to pass that information beyond IM as required.
