HP Rack and Power Manager - High CPU utilization on server
Anyway, I have Rack and Power manager installed in my enterprise, but I am having some serious problems with the application's high CPU utilization. On average, it uses a gread deal of one of the processors on my multiproc server, but now I have an operation where I'm trying to delete a managed agent from my list, and the CPU is pegged on the one CPU the ibserver is running on.
Is this unusual? I've installed this server on several test systems, and they all run high CPU usage. Also, the serial relay agent, if installed on a server so I can communicate serially with the UPS, sucks up an inordinate amount of CPU.
If there's a better forum for this request, please point me there. Thanks!

Re: HP Rack and Power Manager - High CPU utilization on server
Also, there doesnt appear to be many people using this software, unless the forum was down, the RPM forum, had about 3 posts in it...not very helpful.
Yes our CPUs maxxed out at 99% - it was the SNMP.exe service if my memory serves me correctly.
Had to uninstall the software.
What i want to know is how do the servers all talk to the UPS - is it via a comms cable, or via SNMP?

Re: HP Rack and Power Manager - High CPU utilization on server
I have also had failed attempts at installing the application. Once it starts to install, it throws a java error, and I know it has to do with the splash screen that comes up at the begining of the install.
Does anyone know if the application itself can be silently installed? I know the agents can.
Thanks
Dave

Re: HP Rack and Power Manager - High CPU utilization on server
Yes there is a silent silent install option for the System agent and Serial Relay Agent.
For Windows, look on page 2-35 & 2-36 of the User Guide for instructions.
For Redhat, look on page 2-68 & 2-69 of the User Guide for instructions.
For Netware, look on page 2-90 & 2-91 of the User Guide for instructions.

Re: HP Rack and Power Manager - High CPU utilization on server
Sorry I didn't read your post completely. The correct answer is No, there is not a silent install for the Management server.
What OS are you trying to install the Management server on?

Re: HP Rack and Power Manager - High CPU utilization on server
Can one of you provide additional information regarding the Management Servers configuration i.e.
Processor
Memory
Which of the HP Rack and Power Manager components are installed? (Management Server, System Agent, Serial Relay Agent)
What type of devices are you managing (UPS or CMC or both)?
How many UPSs and CMCs are being managed?
OS & service pack version are on this machine?
Which JRE version do you have installed?
How long does it take before the IB server runs away?
What browser version are you running?

Re: HP Rack and Power Manager - High CPU utilization on server
My System:
DL360 G2
Win2K Server SP3
single PIII 1.4 Ghz
1Gb ram
Running:
Rack and Power Server
Insight Manager 7.2 Server
Data Protector 5.1 Cell Manager
The ibserver.exe under processes on the Task Manager is constantly using 60-80 percent CPU.
