Installation on Terminal Server

After installing Insight Manager on Windows NT4 Terminal Server, other users can't open the Program. The error message "Invalid Files: You Must Reinstall" appears. The user under which the installation was made still can open Insight Manager.

Re: Installation on Terminal Server

Did you change into install mode (change user /install) before the installation and then back to execute (change user /execute) when finished ?

Re: Installation on Terminal Server

I got the same problem on Windows 2000 with Citrix Metaframe 1.8.
I got the latest Support pack and SP1 on W2K.

Re: Installation on Terminal Server

There is a known issue with Compaq Insight Manager running on a WTS environment. When users other than the installer of Insight Manager attempt to run Cim.exe, they receive the following message: "Invalid Files - You Must Reinstall." This problem occurs because Cim20.ini is not copied into each user?s home Windows directory. To resolve this issue, set the application compatibility bit for this application to always receive %SystemRoot% as the Windows directory instead of the user?s Windows directories. To do this:

1. Log on as an administrator.

2. Run Regedt32.exe. Select the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion \TerminalServer\Compatibility\Applications.

3. From the Edit menu, click Add Key.

4. In the Key Name field, type CIM (this is the name of the Insight Manager application.

5. With the new key selected, choose Add Value from the Edit menu.

6. In the Value Name field, type Flags. Select REG_DWORD as the Data Type. In
the Data field, type 40C in hex.

Re: Installation on Terminal Server

Good information - but the changing to install mode then back to execute mode would be recommended. While registry key changes may work, Compaq does not normally recommend hacking the registry.

Re: Installation on Terminal Server

Please note:

This will not work. When mulitple people attempt to launch CIM, they are trying to access the same database files. THis will cause an error and will typically crashed the program and possibly corrupt the database. I played with this solution a long time ago and spent months on it, working with Citrix and Compaq only to come to the conclusion that because of the database structure of CIM, it is not possible.
