Monitoring thru firewall, HTTP only capabilities

If I were to only monitor the CIM agent through a firewall, what capabilities does CIM7 have to monitor the CIM agent if I only use the HTTP protocol (to monitor WBEM)?

Is there a place that I could get good documentation on what exactly WBEM provides?
