No status after PSP deployment
I've got a little problem that I hope the collective here can help me with.
I have Insight Manager 7 SP2.3 installed and things seem to be a-ok after discovery. It's picked up a number of servers, with correct product recognition and status indication. All's going well with it until I start to push updated versions of the Proliant Support Pack onto any of them.
I've been doing this by running setup.exe from the PSP, sucessfully choosing my server and quite happily pushing the updates out.
However, after this is done, devices which previously reported correctly no longer do so. Product type becomes empty, HW status turns blue, and there's no MP, SW, or PF status.
What I don't understand is I can browse the Systems Management Homepage of the servers and find out all the info I could possibly want including product type and hardware status. So why then, does it not report it back to the IM7 server?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: No status after PSP deployment
did you configure the support pack before you push out the updates? you may have reconfigured the trust relationship between the clients and the IM 7 server.

Re: No status after PSP deployment
Once you get this up and running it acutally works pretty good. Unfortunatly it's not at all intuitive. I had the same problem. Follow these steps and you'll be up and running...
Go to Start/Programs/IM7/Online Help. In the search paint search for "initial deployment". The first document listed are instructions on the initial deployment of the support pack. Follow the directions and you'll be fine. It tells you how to setup a trust with certificates and how to push the support pack to your servers.

Re: No status after PSP deployment
I'll take a better look through the help and see if I can clear it up at all.

Re: No status after PSP deployment
I've since noticed though, that after the PSP deployment, detected Management Protocols on a server's device information page changes from HTTP & SNMP, to just HTTP. It appears to be ignoring SNMP, which is most odd as the only thing that's changed the version of the agents. I'd imagine that even without the HP agents IM7 should still see SNMP as a managed protocol and provide some elementary information.
Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Re: No status after PSP deployment
A Blue dot indicates that SNMP connectivity isn't happening.
So, either SNMP is no longer running on those Servers or, there's an invalid community name, even the Read Only one is absent.
At this point the Web side and the Agents themselves are not really involved. You should be able to identify a Server just from the SNMP.
Not sure why a PSP deployment would throw out SNMP.
