Notification
Hi,
I have Insight Manager 7 SP2.3 installed and configured with SNMP settings. I was hpoing that this would help me with Hardware issues but we had a hard disk failure this morning but got no notification from IM. Does a trust have to be setup between the machines in question. I have notifications configured to send me a mail and a SMS message.
Am I missing something.
Thanks in advance
Stephen

Re: Notification
Before the device failed did it show in IM as green? If it does not show as green then you will not get any notifications as they normaly work on change of state.
If you go into IM Devices-Overview-Total Servers your devices should be green or yellow. If they are red or blue you need to work out why - it is often the SNMP settings for who can read or write. IM must be able to read the monitored servers agents so both ends should match.

Re: Notification
Actually, regardless of the state in IM7, if a NEW failure occurred a trap should have been sent to IM7 - this would be a new EVENT that would show up on All Events, All Important Events, etc.
On the server that had the failure, make sure the SNMP trap destination is set to be the IP address of the IM7 server (IP addresses are more fail-safe than names due to DNS issues periodically).
If you had notifications setup (like email), then make sure you have one set to "All Important Events" or something similar so that you get notified of an immediate change in the environment.
Polling is only there as a "backup" in case a trap doesn't get through (switches down, nics down, etc.), and only happens periodically.
Hope that points you in the right direction.
