power management software

Can some explain to me, which software I should be using for ea server.

Basically we have 1 server connected to an HP R3000 XR, via serial lead, and the rest just plugged into the power sockets, no comms leads...

If i install that new Rack and Power management software and all the 3 components, should i then be able to view and confiure the UPS per server via Inisght Manager 7 SP2 - i read something about configuring a R&PM.MIB to use in conjunction with IM7...? If so - are there any readmes on this. Thanks.

Re: power management software

first of all beside inside manager can you access the software with your browser
https://x.X.X.X:3257

if not you have the same problem as i do and the software did not install correctly.

I escalated the case to COMPAQ but still has no answer.
Are you part of the solution or are you part of the problem

Re: power management software

HOORAY!

I have sussed this out myself too.
Its amazing what you can do, without help...makes you think more.

I am using Rack and Power Manager

I installed the main management app on the Inight Manager box.

I installed the HP RPM agent, and the SERIAL agent on the NT4 box that is phyically connected via serial lead to the UPS.

And as a test i connected a mains lead from the UPS to a test server and installed JUST the rpm agent on this NT4 box....

I then tapped into a web browser the IM address of the manager app (https://server:3257)
and did a manual discover for the UPS on the box by IP addresss, then I added the the 2 agents as managed agents.

Then from devices, and UPS devices, browse the detected UPS, and under here, are the agents (plugged in physical servers to UPS but no comms leads - all done via SNMP) and from here you can set all the power fail safe settings etc, time it takes to shut down etc.

BINGO!

Re: power management software

You might want to have a look at HP Power Manager. (Downloadable from HP.com) It is simular in functionality to HP Rack and Power Manager but is a lighter weight application. HP Rack and Power Manager is designed to Managed many UPSs. HP Power Manager is designed to manage a single serially attaced UPS and a few servers. From your posts you are managing a single UPS a few servers. HP Power Manager might be a better solution from a systen resource stand point.
