Problem discovering NT4 machines in IM7 2.3

Hi,

I have around 50 servers being monitored on a new IM7 2.3 install. I have no problems with the 2000/2003, netware or linux boxes, but cant seem to get the NT4 boxes discovered. I am installing the agents from a Proliant Essentials release 7.00 CD. I have configured SNMP the same as the 2000/2003 servers. Any ideas?

Check to see if you can directly access the agents through the web browser by using http://SERVERNAME:2301

Yes, I can connect this way, although unlike when I installed the 2000/2003 servers, I wasn't asked for a password, so I am unable to login. I have tried the default of Administrator.

Sorry, I take that back, I can login with the Administrator password from the local machine account.

Re: Problem discovering NT4 machines in IM7 2.3

Greetings. Another item that may help in your deployment is at it seems you configured the Windows 2000/2003 support paq with the Settings and Passwords. Have you done this with the NT 4.0 Support Paq?

If you have or have not you can always copy a known configured servers CPQHMMD.acl file from that known good server and replicated or copy/paste/replace the file on the servers that are not coming up correctly. You will probably need to stop/start the Compaq/HP services at the least the HP Web Agents Service and the new acl file should then take effect.

Also verify that SNMP is configured correctly for you trap destinations for th e IM7 ServerName and or IP and security settings. READ/WRITE is recommended on the servers as well as including the localhost in the destination trap area (127.0.0.1) Any changes to SNMP will require that you start/stop the SNMP service. Once done I would then go into the Control Panel and have the HP Management Agents send out a test trap. The IM7 server should then receive the trap and then execute another discovery of the server. At times I have also taken the extra step in "Editing" the device and make sure that all settings are correct.... Hope it helps
