Problem -> Webserver not reachable from other machines...

Greetings all,

need your help on this one pls.

CIM 7 SP2 running on one server and several machines, all are fine.

One machine makes problems when I try to open its webserver from my or any other web browser. The certificate shows up which I am able to accept and then nothing more happens, the IE just stalls. All other machines are fine and open up so I can hack in my password.

On the machine itself I am able to open it up with https://machinename:2381 or https://127.0.0.1:2381, no problem. I am then able to hack in my password and all is fine.

Only when trying an access from any other machine/browser this problem appears and only on this one machine.

Rebooted, restartet, reinstalled, restarted, copied from other servers, checked SNMP settings, ports (yes, they are listening), no other software interfering, checked folder rights etc. etc. no solution.

If anyone has any idea since I saw this problem in several other posts without any solution, pls pls help.

I have no other idea why it works on the machine itself and isn't from others.

No firewall is in between for sure.

Thanks for helping,

Bill

I'd make sure you have the correct version of Java 2 Runtime Environment installed on the clients you're using to try and view CIM from. It should be Java 2 v1.3.1_02. Also make sure you have it enabled in the Advanced Tab of Internet Options.

Thx Morgan, but hasn't anything to do with this prob.

Like I said, all other servers are perfectly viewable from any web browser in the company or from my machine, only this one is not reachable from other web browsers/machines. Only from its own local installed web browser I am able to view its CIM website.

But many thx,

HI Bill,

I don't know if I can be much help with this one, but thought I would give it a shot. I hate to see posts go without responses :)

Have you tried the group configuration task to copy settings from a working server to the problem server? And if so, what does the log say?

I know you said all servers but one are experiencing the problem, but have you looked at the client agents that are installed on the IM server itself. It can cause strange problems if the HTTP options for the client side agents, on the IM server itself aren't the same as your standard.

Also, because you are getting the certificate, I'm assuming your DNS resolution is working fine. Have you done an NSLookup from the IM server to be sure. You never know...

What version of agents are you using, and was is your standard trust relationship? What are you SNMP settings set to?

The only thing which would explain this (local works, but remote doesn't) would be something on the network or some setting on the local machine is different. Are you sure all ports are open? What proxy settings do you have remotely? Is there a proxy enabled through the browser? I would recommend disabling this temporarily, if so.
The truth is out there, but I forgot the URL..

Any proxy servers involved? If pointing to this machine from other machines does not go through the proxy exception list, this could explain this behavior.

Re: Problem -> Webserver not reachable from other machines...

One thing to check, in the agents you can set "IP Restriction" to not allow requests from a certain IP address or range. Is anything set there (the default is nothing).

Another thing to check would be cookies. The latest IE versions have that privacy policy manager embedded so you have to add particular sites to be "trusted". Windows 2003 makes this even harder...

The last thing that's possible is that the machine has an underscore in the name. That's a bad thing from an IE perspective and from a DNS perspective.

Hope one of these helps.
