Problem with Workstations

The workstations appear with a black dot - Inaccessible, but I can see the servers and including drilling down to the NIC cards. What do I need to do to "see" the workstations? Thanks for any help.

Re: Problem with Workstations

Are the community strings setup correctly? With Win98 this involves setting a policy for the network.

Re: Problem with Workstations

You may need to reinstall the SNMP services. Make sure you have access to the correct SNMP files. When you have the directory for the SNMP install files, delete SNMP from the "services" section. Restart the computer and reinstall SNMP. Make sure the Compaq Insight Manager Agents are installed. If the policy is set correctly, you should be able to "see" the PC.

Re: Problem with Workstations

Workstations agents are not meant to be "seen" by CIM. CIM is only for server agents. However, you can use the CIM server agents on NT workstations and then they will be "seen" by the CIM system.

Cheers.

Re: Problem with Workstations

The CIM User Guide does not indicate the existence of a Workstation Agent. All this time, I've tried to install the only agent shown in the documentation available to me. Help!

Re: Problem with Workstations

There are three agents that have to be installed in order for CIM to see anything. The first is the NT management driver (CP000317.exe), then you have to install the Foundation Agents (CP000231.exe), then you have to install the Server Agents (CP000583.exe). These are the agents that Compaq says will only run on a Proliant/Prosigna server. Not so. They will install on a NT 4.0 Workstation and the workstation will be accessible in the CIM console. You can load other agents like the NIC, Power, and Storage, but they won't be much of use to you cause the workstations (Deskpro, etc.) don't use the extended systems that a server uses.

Good luck and cheers!

Re: Problem with Workstations

I believe I need additional orientation on CIM. Does Compaq offer training for CIM? Please let me know. Thanks, for the information.

Re: Problem with Workstations

I am not sure on that one. One of the Compaq Tech monitoring this discussion should be able to provide some information for you on that topic. If not, I would contact you local Compaq rep and ask.

Cheers!
