"unknown" hardware & software statuse on CIM server

Agent installed is 7.10

Management server is Compaq Insight Manager 7.0

Problem: hardware & software device is displayed as "Unknown" on CIM server and on local agent.

Have stoped the VCA service agent on local.

Have done SNMP trap test and it works successfully.

Have re-installed agents - no joy.

have upgraded agent from 6.40 to 7.10 - no joy.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Re: "unknown" hardware & software statuse on CIM server

I guess SNMP is configured properly ? i.e. READ WRITE community string is defined on managed server and is listed in SNMP protocol settings on IM7 server. SNMP is enabled as protocol on IM7. SNMP "sets" are enabled ?
Are there any firewalls between IM7 and other servers ?
Two questions.
1. What is on the local agent screen https://servername:2381 ?
2. From IM7 if you go to SNMP Explorer link, is it possible to read some variables on the managed server, like "system name" ?

Re: "unknown" hardware & software statuse on CIM server

Hi,
Once I changed my SNMP settings to READ/WRITE and the IP of my HPSIM Server (then restarted Web Agent) the details appeared. However, my 'System Name' in SIM still appears as an IP Address and not the Server name.
How can I change this?

TIA

Re: "unknown" hardware & software statuse on CIM server

I have tried the read/write on SNMP but still have the same results.

The CIM server discovers the machine as "unknown Device".

Any other ideas guys?

Hello

Check under SNMP propertis tab security if you have enabled option Accept SNMP pockets from those host, then chek if there is localhost or 127.0.0.1.

Restart SNMP, check if HP Insight Web Agent is starting and run Identification task.
