SMSPerf.dll

I keep getting SMSPerf.dll related Event Log error messages, since upgrading from SMS version 1.2 to 2.0 already a long time ago. Installing newer versions of SMSPerf.dll and SMS Service Packs when they became available, has never solved the problem. According to MS Technet, this might be due to some version incompatibility with Insight Manager. The current one - after installing SMS SP3 is as follows:
Event ID 1007- ?Unable to locate the close procedure "AppPerfClose" in DLL "D:\APPS\SMS\bin\i386\SMSPERF.dll" for the SMSPerfCountersForD:_APPS_SMS_BIN_I386_SMSPERF.DLL" service. Performance data for this service will not be available. Error Status is data DWORD 0.?
This is the scenario:
COMPAQ ProLiant 3000, installed as Domain BDC
NT Sp6a
MS SMS Vers 2.0 SP3
MS SQL 7.0 SP2
CompaqInsight Manager XE Version 2.1B
Compaq Support Paq Version 1.04 (with all Options installed)

Don't know about the web agents, but I can tell you for a fact that the CIM 32-bit console version later than 4.90 does not support any SMS beyond 1.x.

When you install current versions of CIM, the string on one of the install screens even says "Microsoft Systems Management Server 1.x Support". I seem to recall someone explaining something like there were some architectural changes in SMS 2.x that were incompatible with the way CIM launches external applications.

Did you install CIM on this server or on a remote console? Another issue exists with SMS and the Compaq Agents installed on the same server, see MS Q240426 for more info and a patch.
About CIM and incompatibility with SMS 1.2: this is only for having a nice button in SMS so that you can launch CIM when you click a server in SMS.

CIM 5.0 is not physically installed on the Server in question. Only the Server Management agent. Compaq system platform data collection and integration for and into SMS 2.0 is done by using the "collect.exe" utility, with the parameters: "collect /m /sms20". The Microsoft TechNet artical also does not refer to CIM itself, but Insight Agens installed. Pls find below the relevant quote out of TechNet Article Q238866:
"This error message occurs on Compaq servers that have Compaq Insight Agentsinstalled. The error message usually occurs approximately 13 hours after restarting, and repeats every two minutes thereafter until the next restart."

Compaq System data integration into SMS is also independent from CIM. The "collect.exe" collects the system information and places the data in a format (mif), which is automatically incorporated into the SMS/SQL Database. This process is totaly independent from any CIM or CIMXE installation and compared with previous CIM integration into SMS, a rather significant and useful improvement.
Nevertheless, my problem with SMSPerf Events continues
