SNMP through VPN?

I have remote servers connected via a Checkpoint VPN with NAT'ed addresses. We have a mgmt station in the 10.x ip range with a single public address mapped through the firewall and each server on the other end has a static mapping to a public ip address. I can ping both directions but can not get snmp connectivity working. All ports are open through the VPN and it worked for a short time when we first open up the ports. I am able to recieve traps from the servers in the alarm log of IM but it thinks all the servers are in accessable. Has anyone tried this before? The strange thing is it worked for a short time then we received inaccessable alarms from all the servers at once.
