I previously used Compaq servers, then I changed jobs and used Dell servers, now I am in a new job - this time with HP servers.
There are many features that I knew and loved in the Compaq Insight Manager that I can't find any more. Can someone redirect me to the new location or new names for the features?
1. I used to use a Windows-based email alerting system that would send a message on a hardware alert (eg disk failed, fan failed). I remember that this was individually configured on each server, and I had to install it from the Smart Start disk. Where is this feature now? What is it called? Can it be centrally managed?
2. Every time we bought a new server, we could put the SmartStart CD into any of the older servers, and the CD would show us all the versions of all drivers, and if it needed to be updated with the version from the CD. I also remember that we could do this centrally, and push drivers (and even Compaq tools and utilities) to remote Compaq servers. Does this feature still exist? How do I start it scanning my HP servers to display all drivers and their current versions to compare against newer versions?
3. The people that set up the HP servers had never done it before, and so they have not configured the Insight Manager (ie http://servername:2301 ) local admin password. How do I change this password if I don't already know it? Do I have to uninstall and reinstall the software?
4. How do I perform a new install of the Insight Manager on a server? (Some servers were not set up with Smart Start). How do I install all the agents and software so that I get all the features - I have tried CP004791 and CP005251 but this does not help. I have been trying to find the facilites that were available under http://server:2301/Webagent/index.tpl for things like CPU monitoring, disk space display and a full report of all serial numbers including disks.
In know that much of the features that I want are now in HP SIM, but I still want to know how to do it "the old way" too...
Thanks for help on this - I'm glad to be back with manageable hardware!

Re: Where are all the old features
Hello,
I can help on one of the queries :)
re: 3. The people that set up the HP servers had never done it before, and so they have not configured the Insight Manager (ie http://servername:2301 ) local admin password. How do I change this password if I don't already know it? Do I have to uninstall and reinstall the software?
Had the same scenario myself - I resolved this using the Proliant support pack, select just the insight agent and then choose to configure the software, set the admin password and then re-deploy to the server, not too sure if this can be done by installing the CPQ for the agent as I only got this resolved using the PSP,
Thanks,
Larry

Re: Where are all the old features
I think I can help you with some questions.
Question 1. The emailbased Event Notifier is back by default on new servers installed using smartstart.
Question 2. The driver installation tool is hidden on the smartstart CD under the folder \compaq\csp\nt, i think this may also be the answer to question 4.
