Accessing iLo over network from its host on the same subnet?

Does anyone have a machine that can communicate with its own iLo2 via the network when the host and the ilo are on the same subnet?

Mine can't and this is causing a critical failure to show up in HP SIM, on the iLo2 inside the server which HP SIM is running on.

My other servers show this same symptom, but its not normally noticable since I normally do not access an iLo from its own host over the network. This behavior is the same with firmware 2.01 or 2.05.

I dont see a way to edit the above msg. I should have mentioned this was when the iLo2 is configured to use the shared network port.

This is a DL380G5, right?

Are you using VLAN?

Re: Accessing iLo over network from its host on the same subnet?

This is happening on both dl380g5s and dl580g4s.

VLAN is set to disable in hponcfg.

Everything except the host server can access the ilo2 over the network. And the host server can access everything except the ilo2 over the network. There are four servers each with an ilo2. Each server can successfully ping 4 servers (including itself) and 3 ilo2's.

I investigated a little and found out that this is a known limitation of the shared network port.

Not what I wanted to hear, but thanks for the help. I guess its really only bugging me about that one server (HP SIM server), so I can run that single ilo2 in dedicated NIC mode. Guess I'll be running another cable next time I'm at the NOC.

Hi Keith

Did you try bonding two network ports (so that in theory there was still a way out/into the server even when NIC1 was active with iLO traffic)? (I don't know if it works, just a thought!)
