Factory Reset ILO4+ via commandline, SSH or other?
I'm trying to erase and remove all information stored in the ILO4+ on a number of servers. I've SSH in and run reset, but this does not appear to be the factory reeset I'm looking for. More just reboot.
</map1>hpiLO-> reset
What is the command I'm looking for?

Re: Factory Reset ILO4+ via commandline, SSH or other?
Hi ServerGuy90563,
Yes, the command 'reset' has to work. But if not working please try these steps-
1) try with the command 'reset map1' . Refer this post.
2) Update the iLO firmware version to latest.
3) Refer this document any of the method may work. This document (Page No.22) may also help.
4) Resetting iLO by System maintenance DP switch on motherboard related also can help. Please find the instructions on Access panel of the server.
I believe my post will help you.
Regards,
Shiva_JR

Re: Factory Reset ILO4+ via commandline, SSH or other?
Thanks for your help. When I run the command to test I made the hostname "NOTRESET" After the command, the hostname is still NOTRESET so I don't think it's doing anything. I do get booted out of the session so I think the ILO is rebooting, but not set back to factory defaults. I'll try updating the firmware and try again.

Re: Factory Reset ILO4+ via commandline, SSH or other?
I upgraded the firmware to 2.82, ran the command and same result. I think "reset" is just reboot. I'm looking for "set to factury defaults"
but it's on a number of servers and needs to be done remotly. Any ideas?

Re: Factory Reset ILO4+ via commandline, SSH or other?
Hi @ServerGuy90563 ,
I hope this helps!
Set to factory defaults using iLO remote console, Please refer this video: HPE ProLiant Servers - Resetting iLO 5 to factory defaults from iLO remote console session using iLO 5 Configuration Utility in UEFI System Utilities
(OR)
You may use HPONCFG which is an online command-line tool, you can use to set up and configure iLO from within Windows and Linux
operating systems without rebooting the server OS.
Download HPONCFG by clicking here for windows and install it.
Start the HPONCFG configuration utility from the command line. When using Windows, open a command window by
selecting Start > Run and change to the %Program files%\Hewlett Packard Enterprise
\HPONCFG directory and then run the below command to set to the factory defaults:
hponcfg /reset
For more information, please refer this document
For more information on hponcfg, refer this document ( page 19 - 21)
Thank you!

Re: Factory Reset ILO4+ via commandline, SSH or other?
Thanks for the reply, but this isn't quite what were looking for. We are going to be resetting a number of servers that are decomissioned. We need to do them remotly and were looking to make some tool to do so. The tool you mentioned above looks like it has to be run locally on the machine? Also remotting into the console KVM style thought he console looks like it would take way to long to do so many servers.
We are more looking for comamnds to do so (API maybe?) to design a tool to do so in house. I would be supprised if something does not exist either through SSH or the RestfulAPI. I don't see a factory default anywhere in the documentaton. Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: Factory Reset ILO4+ via commandline, SSH or other?
Good day!
To perform a factory reset on an HPE iLO4+ (Integrated Lights-Out 4+) using command line or SSH, you can use the following steps:
Note: Be extremely cautious when performing a factory reset, as it will erase all configurations and settings, and you may lose access to the iLO if not properly configured afterward.
>> Connect to the iLO using SSH. Make sure you have administrative access to the iLO.
>> To reset the iLO to factory defaults, you can use the following command:hpiLO-> reset factory
-This command should reset the iLO to its default settings, including the hostname, network settings, and other configurations.
>> After issuing the factory reset command, it's a good practice to reboot the server to ensure that the iLO settings take effect. You can do this using:reset /system1
- This command will reboot the server.
NOTE: **Please be cautious when performing these operations, especially on remote servers, as you might lose connectivity to the iLO if the network settings are reset to defaults.

Regarding creating a tool to automate this process for multiple servers, you can use the HPE iLO RESTful API to interact with iLO remotely and perform operations like factory resets. The API provides a way to manage and configure iLO settings programmatically.
Here are some general steps you can follow:
1.You may need to install libraries or SDKs for interacting with the iLO RESTful API in your preferred programming language (e.g., Python, Ruby).
2. Use the API to authenticate with the iLO on each server.
3. Use the API to send the factory reset command to the iLO on each server.
4. Optionally, use the API to reboot the servers after the factory reset.
Please consult the HPE iLO RESTful API documentation for specific details on how to use the API to perform these tasks. The exact commands and procedures may vary depending on your programming language and specific requirements.
Always exercise caution when working with remote management interfaces, especially when performing actions that can disrupt server operation. Test your tool on a single server before deploying it to multiple servers to ensure it works as expected.
Hope this gives some insights. Let me know...
