iLO Amplifier Pack 2.2x - Need to understand use cases for standalone servers

Hello, I have a DL20 Gen9 and will soon bring up a new DL360 Gen10+ and I'm looking to understand the iLO Amplifier Pack.

I have reviewed the documentation, installation etc., and it appears to be an "appliance" application... i.e., it runs in a virutual machine.  The support page however lists a binary for the current iLO Amplifier Pack.  See attached screen shot.

I am currently running RHEL 7.9 on the DL20 (bare metal).  I am curious if the AP is only for virutualized platforms or if it supports bare metal deployments.

Also, the documentation does not mention what the .bin file is for, let alone how to install it.  Curious if the binary is intended on being installed directly to the iLO4.  I have verfied that the Gen9, iLO4 combination supports AP, however, based on the documentation, it appears that it will only run as an appliance in a VM.  Perhaps may be able to repackage it into a Container.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards,

JD

Re: iLO Amplifier Pack 2.2x - Need to understand use cases for standalone servers

Hello,

The iLO amplifier appliance is an appliance that can be use as a central point of management for your servers (through the iLO). It can be used just for monitoring of your servers, but you can also use it for managing your firmware and drivers.

For most versions of the iLO amplifier appliance you should find an ova and a bin file. The ova will be used for standing up a new iLO amplifier appliance. The bin file is used to upgrade the iLO amplifier appliance. There are no OS specific requirements for the target servers, except for when you wish to perform certain actions against the OS (drivers and firmware). You can use the iLO amplifier appliance to generate reports as well against your servers. You can also connect the iLO amplifier to HPE Infosight to get further data surrounding your servers. The only licensing requirement is on the iLO's. The type of license installed on your iLO's will help to determine what actions can be taken against the servers.

Thanks thutchings.  I was not sure about the bin, but makes sense that it's like updating a container image or the runtime in a VM.  I'll look into installed RHEL KVM.
