iLO Amplifier Pack being discontinued?

I saw the change notification that Amplifier Pack is being discontinued and recommending customers move to OneView (costs more) or Compute Ops Management (only available for Greenlake).

This is extremely disappointing to hear as Amplifier Pack has met my needs up to now.

Re: iLO Amplifier Pack being discontinued?

Hi,

I do not see a EOSL defined for iLO Amplifier

ILO Amplifier is a free software. iLO Amplifier Pack is supported as a part of the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Server Infrastructure. No additional support services are required to be purchased.

However, we do recommend upgrading to the latest version of the amplifier as and when they are available.

Prerequisites to host iLO Amplifier Pack can be found in the User Guide:

Re: iLO Amplifier Pack being discontinued?

Yeah, never trust and rely on HPE. I've put so much time into reporting and fixing ILO Amplifier bugs, I really would like to throw awys all those HPE server currently running here. And it's also typical to announce this when the last version was released instead of giving customer appropriate time to prepare. As OneView never worked in any way to our satisfaction - and I'm only talking about patching - we need to develop something on our own.

Edit:

Received the typical useles survey questions. But HPE makes this even more worthless by even not giving customer the choice to say "NO" I will not buy you stuff, neither online nor offline!

As a result of your visit to the community, do you intend to purchase a product from Hewlett Packard Enterprise?
 Yes, online

Re: iLO Amplifier Pack being discontinued?

If iLO Amplifier Pack is being discontinued what are they doing about the server function of InfoSight?  Are they dropping that functionality?

This is very annoying, what is HPE thinking? For me, this is the only best way with Amplifier+Infosight+vCenter Server.

Goes me full on the nerves.

Re: iLO Amplifier Pack being discontinued?

Let me join the community of frustrated engineers.

Our infrastructure is highly dependable on iLO Amplifier -> HPE InfoSight and i was stupid enough to upgrade to latest version v2.22

Now i network config doesn't commit on either DHCP or Static entries.

My only problem was that i wasn't smart enough to take a snapshot before this and i had no backup for the appliance.

Now i can't find the old OVA and aparently there's not available for download anymore either.

Feels like this last update was somehow forced, just be ensure amplifiers crash and there's nothing you can do about it.

Joining the admin hate train.
It's like they want to make it a pain in the ass to patch these systems' firmware. I thought iLO Amplifier and Server Infosight was going in the right direction. But now that they killed them, there's not a good way to manage them. OneView is trash.

Re: iLO Amplifier Pack being discontinued?

After having moved to OneView and been running it for a few months, I have to say, I'm actually fine with them consolidating and removing Amplifier Pack. OneView with servers in monitored mode does everything Amplifier Pack was doing for me and there's no licensing cost associated unless you need the features that managed mode provides.

Re: iLO Amplifier Pack being discontinued?

@Sebasbin Sebasbin,

Since you work for HPe maybe you can be of help.  I was referred to this customer notice, stating that iLo Amplifier Pack and Infosight for servers is being deprecated:

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/docDisplay?docId=emr_na-a00133620en_us

I have installed Oneview for servers and have one of my hosts registered to it.  What becomes of Infosight later this year (2024)?  Is there an alternative portal that I can register my Oneview for servers appliance to so I can continue getting updates via an HPe provided portal?  The customer announcement in July of 2023 is hopelessly vagie, and every search I attempt leads me to useless HPe marketing drivel.

Please shed some light on what is going on with iLo Amplifier, Infosight for servers, and Oneview for servers.

Thank you,

Brian

Even more deprecation news: https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?hprpt_id=ALERT_HPE_3070615&docId=emr_na-a00133620en_us&jumpid=em_pom8nu6hj_aid-521053889

DETAILS OF CHANGE

HPE is announcing the following product changes:
HPE iLO Amplifier Pack is now in Maintenance. The final release of HPE iLO Amplifier Pack is 2.22.
HPE InfoSight for Servers is now in maintenance.
HPE iLO Amplifier HSM Provider for VMware vSphere is now in Maintenance. The final release of HPE iLO Amplifier HSM Provider for VMware vSphere was version 1.5.0.
The latest and final version of iLO Amplifier HSM only supports VMware vSphere7.0u2 with vSAN and VMware vSphere 7.0u3 without vSAN, HPE ProLiant Gen8through Gen10 Plus.

Sad, because Amplifier Pack was a cool free way of updating the Servers without having to register them somewhere. And I believe HPE COM on Greenlake is a paid service?
If yes, It's not of interest to be honest because we only resell the hardware and do our own monitoring.
