Monitor Ubuntu 20.04 on a DL380 Gen7 (iLO3) and use HP management content pack
Hi all,
Longshot here, I know, but certainly worth asking!
I have a DL380 Gen7 running Ubuntu 20.04 (Focal). I'd like to be able to remotely monitor this system using HPE SIM. I became aware of the HPE Management Content Pack for Linux (http://downloads.linux.hpe.com/SDR/project/mcp/) and have tried various combinations of dist/project versions of packages to install.
I can install the various packages, like hp-snmp-agents, hpsmh, hp-health, etc. If I try to bring up the smh running on that system, however, there's no information. It can't be discovered in HP SIM, either. Management Processor in smh says none and Data Source is snmp. The Component Status Summary box shows "No items".
I've made sure /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf has the following lines
dlmod cmaX /usr/lib/libcmaX64.so
rwcommunity private 127.0.0.1
rocommunity public 127.0.0.1
Is there a combination of these packages that will work on a DL380 Gen7 running 20.04? Thanks in advance!

Re: Monitor Ubuntu 20.04 on a DL380 Gen7 (iLO3) and use HP management content pack
Hi,
Thank you for the Post.
We see that the 14.04 is the supported OS for DL380 G7 Server.
You may refer the below links :
> https://techlibrary.hpe.com/us/en/enterprise/servers/supportmatrix/ubuntu.aspx
Would request you to install the Supported OS and then try and check the status.
Thank you
RamKS

Re: Monitor Ubuntu 20.04 on a DL380 Gen7 (iLO3) and use HP management content pack
Hi RamKS,
Thank you for the reply. I should have specified I'm looking for a later version of Linux specifically for XFS support. This would be for a Veeam hardened repository. Their requirements are 18.04 or higher. See https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/system_requirements.html?ver=110#repo and search the document for "advanced XFS".
Under Ubuntu on 20.04, I could get the HP Health package to show properties of the server using the CLI, but the SNMP Agents and SMH weren't working. I couldn't monitor it from HP SIM, either.
I've had better luck since posting this using a trial edition of SLES 15 on the Gen7 and manually installing the HPE RPMs. I can get the SNMP agents, HP Health and SMH to work properly using that OS. I can also monitor the system from HP SIM. I may just go with that OS even though it requires a support subscription.

Hi,
Thank you for the post.
But here the first thing would be is to install the OS which is suported for the Hardware Platform after that if there are any issues we can check later.
Thank you
RamKS
