Updating ROM BIOS via iLO3 question
Hi,
I have a BL465c G7 with iLO3. The ROM BIOS is A19 12/20/2010 and wish to upgrade the latest version which is 03/14/2018. Note this is the mothboard bios, not the iLO firmware.
Can I update this via the ILO3? There is seems no mention of this (unlike ILO4 which it does and works ok).
Thanks.

Re: Updating ROM BIOS via iLO3 question
For ILO4 and ILO5 it works good.
No idea about ILO3.
Is there a hint in the online help like in the newer ILOs?
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Updating ROM BIOS via iLO3 question
Unfortunately there is nothing in the help or the online user guide :
https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=c02774507&docLocale=en_US
As per the screenshot off the internet below.

Re: Updating ROM BIOS via iLO3 question
Hi,
No, You can not update BIOS firmware using iLO 3.
Please let us know if you have any further query.

Re: Updating ROM BIOS via iLO3 question
Hi,
This is not possible. Download the latest supported SPP for G7 servers here:
Just mount the .ISO file from your iLO virtual console or virtual CD-ROM and you can either install all available updates or just the ones you need (like BIOS).
The SPP is both supported as bootable media, or can be launched from within your OS.

Re: Updating ROM BIOS via iLO3 question
After reading the release notes, that ISO does not contain the latest BIOS.

Re: Updating ROM BIOS via iLO3 question
You can use this SPP and add the component manually or use the custom SPP + hotfix:

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Updating ROM BIOS via iLO3 question
Thanks for links, I have the BIOS update file, just unable to execute it. The server is on the other side of the world, so I only have iLO access.
How do I add the file to the SPP? When I load up the SPP I cannot see anywhere to add it in?
Thanks.

Re: Updating ROM BIOS via iLO3 question
You can add the files into the hp/packages directory
or
prepare an USB key drive (first link) and use it with ILOs virtual media.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Updating ROM BIOS via iLO3 question
iLO's 3 virtual media does not let you mount USB drives, only floppy drive IMG files.
I have tried to add the files to the SPP ISO, but it will not boot - keeps saying boot checksum error.

>> ILO's 3 virtual media does not let you mount USB drives
I'm sure I have done this before. Must be a real USB stick connected to your PC.
>> I have tried to add the files to the SPP ISO, but it will not boot
How?
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Updating ROM BIOS via iLO3 question
I unziped the file in the ISO using 7-ZIP.
I mounted the ISO in IMGburn, and extracted the boot sector and saved it.
I added the rpm for the BIOS in pakages folder and rebuilt the ISO.
It starts to boot off the ISO - then it says checksum error.
