Abnormally high average page read rate

Hi,
We are using SIM41 and the Performance Management Agents, I get a lots of the following alerts, how can I trouble shoot these or stop the alerting for that particular message.

Event Name: Performance Status Change
Event originator: bell
Event Severity: Minor
Event received: 06-Aug-2004, 10:00:59
Event description: This event is created as the result of receiving a performance status change event from the Performance Analysis tool

Subsystem Name: Memory
Previous Subsystem Status: Major
Overall Performance Status: Minor
Explanation: Abnormally high average page read rate (below 5 is normal) and an abnormally high page fault rate (below 10 is normal). However, there is still at least 20 MB of available memory. This can happen when a process is limited in the amount of memory it can allocate and results in high paging even though more memory is available. Thus this situation may look like a bottleneck when it is not.

Thanks

Brian

Re: Abnormally high average page read rate

Are you getting these primarily from a particular server or group of servers? This sounds like you may ultimately trace the problem to a particular application running on those servers.

Hi,

I'm getting it from several servers we have about 30 and I get it from about 15... not sure how to trouble shoot, any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Re: Abnormally high average page read rate

Are there any commonalities between those 15 servers that the others don't share (same type, array controller, all running the same backup software...)?

not really, all sorts of DL/ML's with Windows 2000 some with Exchange etc.... all different.

Not sure what to tell you then... I was hoping to nail this down to an application or service issue.

I get this all the time when my antivirus full system scan runs.

Re: Abnormally high average page read rate

you typically get this alert when an app that can't take advantage of much memory runs. I get this on my web servers quite often. Check with the application providers to see if they can fully take advantage of the memory you have in you servers. I have also been able to limit the amount of times I get this alert by increasing the sample rate to the highest level (25).
