Add MSA1000 2/8 switches to SIM
Hello,
I've added the MSA1000's 2 2/8 cards to SIM and it sees them as "unmanaged" and it can only ping them. Is there a way to monitor them as well? I can't add the ACU to the SIM server as there's no fiber card installed in it. Can I monitor them through the network because I can access the switches GUI just fine from any network pc? I've changed the SNMP to our own and added the SIM server.
On a side note is there a way to monitor the drives within the MSA1000? I noticed the PMP has a Network Storage tab in the Monitoring Administration but it won't let me give it a license it via the Licensing Administration (Actually it won't even see the MSA to let me add it.) This feature was the reason I had bought more licenses in the first place. For PMP, does it monitor the 2 2/8 switches or the MSA itself?

Re: Add MSA1000 2/8 switches to SIM
UnManaged would still indicate an SNMP issue.
It would need to have the same Read Community Name as you use in HPSIM to allow hosts access.
It should also be configured to send SNMP Traps to the HPSIM Server.
Not sure about the latter questions we moved away from our MSA1000 some time ago.

Re: Add MSA1000 2/8 switches to SIM
i am trying to sort out PMP for a few MSAs as well, my understanding is that the MSA is monitored from the server that has a LUN on that controller i.e. from fileserver01 if that server has an HBA connecting to the controller.
If you go to the home page for fileserver01 you will be able to see all the disks contained within the LUN, but not all disks in the controller.
I am having issues getting PMP working at all, i just cant see any servers at all in the license page... i have a call open with HP at the moment.

Re: Add MSA1000 2/8 switches to SIM
I found it. (directly from the SIM help files woops)
Network Storage Licensing
Network storage enclosures, as well as the servers connected to the enclosures, must be separately licensed before monitoring can occur.
To license a network storage enclosure:
1. From the Systems Insight Manager console, click the performance icon in the PF column for the licensed server that the network storage is connected to.
2. At the Online Analysis window, expand the Storage section in the Server Tree frame.
3. Click the icon for the network storage enclosure to license. The Network Storage License Administration page appears.
4. Click Apply License. An available license is applied to the enclosure and network storage performance can now be monitored.
