Adding New Fireware update to HP SIM 5.0

I have just installed HP SIM 5.0, I have used it to deploy PSP to my managed servers (all Proliant) This has worked correctly with no issues. On 2 servers it reports that the battery on the 6400 controllers have failed. I know this is due to the firmware revision on the controllers. I am trying to add this firmware(CP005872.exe) to the Respository so it can be deployed but cannot seem to find a mechanism.

How do I add this firmware. The PSP (7.40) does not have any fimrware only drivers.

Re: Adding New Fireware update to HP SIM 5.0

You have to download that firmware component from www.hp.com to VCRM Repository and then click on "Create a Custom Software baseline" option under "Home" tab in VCRM

Fill the Details in 1st page and click "next", here you can select PSP (7.40) and also select firmware component, then finish the wizard.

Now select this CSB from SIM for deploying

CSB can be used to group components as you need with respect to OS.

Okay, this makes sense. But just for future reference if you already gave a PSP deployed and fully functioning is there any way to deploy just a firmware update, or does any update have to be bundled with a PSP as a CSB? Again thank you for your quick response.

Re: Adding New Fireware update to HP SIM 5.0

You don't need to make a custom baseline.
I have a directory structure where there's a top level directory that the VCRM points to, below that are sub-directories for individual PSPs and a non-PSP directory.
I copy the various F/W updates to this non-PSP directory.
The VCA is configured to use the stadard baseline.
If the F/W is not up to date is does not impact the overall status as reported by HPSIM.

Either way, you can always deploy individual items from the VCA, whetehr they're part of the PSP or not.
Note some HP utilities you might use are not part of the PSP.

Re: Adding New Fireware update to HP SIM 5.0

Hi I have just tried this, when I create a subdirectory under the Respository directory containing non PSP software/firmware it does not appear as a deployable item with SIM, this is even after I scan the respository and rebuild the catalog. Also when I try create a new CSB as suggested earlier and add my firmware component I do not seem to have this option as it only lists the components added as part of the PSP.

Re: Adding New Fireware update to HP SIM 5.0

For Deploying only one component from SIM do the following

1) Open SIM
2) select "Install software and firmware" under "Deploy" menu
3) select the target systems
4) select VCRM, this will list all the available PSP and components.
5) select only one firmware component and intall it
